Provide care and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities living in a home setting to maximize each individual's potential. Responsibilities include but not limited to assisting with daily living skills of bathing, feeding, personal hygiene, medication administration, community outings & more.

Employment FAQ'S
WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR DSP?
Direct Support Professionals must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number, and one of the following forms of identification:

State of Ohio identification
-
Valid Driver License
-
Or other Government-issued Photo Identification
Direct Support Professionals must have a high school diploma or general education diploma (GED) and be able to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to comply with all requirements set forth in administrative rules governing the services provided.
You also, must be able to pass a background check.
BEFORE WORKING IN A HOME, WHAT TRAINING IS NEEDED?
Before providing services to a person with disabilities, staff must successfully complete eight hours of training that include the following topics:
-
An overview of serving people with developmental disabilities, including implementation of individual service plans.
-
The role and responsibilities of direct service staff with regard to services, including person-centered planning, community integration, self-determination, and self-advocacy.
-
Universal precautions for infection control, including handwashing and the disposal of bodily waste.
-
The rights of people with disabilities.
-
The MUI Rule, including health and welfare alerts issued by the department.
Before staff are able to provide services to a person, they must also successfully complete training specific to each person who they will support.
Additional training requirements may apply for some services.
WHY DO I NEED A BACKGROUND CHECK?
It is a requirement by The Board of Developmentally Disabilities that before a person is hired to provide direct care services they submit to and pass a BCI background check as well as the following additional background checks:
1. Office of Inspector General (OIG)
2. United States General Services Administration System for Award Management (SAM)
3. Abuser Registry
4. Nurse Aide Registry
5. Sex Offender and Child-Victim Offender Database
6. Ohio Department of Medicaid Provider Exclusion and Suspension List
7. Database of Incarcerated and Supervised Offenders
ONCE I'M HIRED, WHAT'S NEXT?
Staff are required to have a background check fully completed. Staff must also be enrolled in the Retained Applicant Fingerprint Background Check, better known as rap back and hold a valid certification from the American Red Cross or equivalent in both First Aid and CPR including an in-person skills assessment.
